Akshay Kumar arrested and subsequently released in obscenity caseBollywood’s well-known actor Akshay Kumar, booked - along with wife Twinkle and the Lakme India Fashion week organizer – in obscenity case after the infamous “unbuttoning” act, was arrested and later released on bail on Monday morning, at suburban Mumbai’s Vakola Police Station.

News Agency PTI was informed of the arrest-related proceedings by a senior police officer, who said: “Akshay, who arrived in Mumbai from abroad, surrendered before the police today. He was accompanied by his lawyer. He was then arrested under section 294 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code for his alleged obscene behavior.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Arvind Mahadadi, said that Akshay Kumar was out of the country for the last one month, in connection with his work commitments, and had returned home on Sunday night. He was arrested at 8.30 am on Monday, and subsequently released. Last month, Twinkle was also arrested under the same charges and instantaneously released on bail.

The obscenity charges were slapped on the celebrity couple in April after a Mumbai-based social worker, Anil Nair lodged a police complaint against Akshay, Twinkle and the organizers, alleging obscene behavior in public – when Twinkle unfastened Akshay’s jeans while he was on the ramp, during the Lakme India Fashion week show.
