Alcoholic kills younger brother in Hadapsar

A 22-year-old youth was beaten to death by his elder brother following a heated argument between them at their Malwadi residence in Hadapsar on Tuesday.

Senior police inspector Vasant Sonawane of Hadapsar police station told DNA that Ashok Genuba Ubhe (22) was killed by his alcoholic brother Prashant alias Parshuram (27).

Acting on a complaint lodged by the victim's eldest brother Somnath, police arrested the suspect.

Sonawane said that Ashok was the youngest of the four siblings. Prashant was arrested by the police in a theft case and was released from the Yerawada central prison some six months ago.

"Ashok and Somnath used to urge him to work and earn money instead of drinking alcohol," Sonawane said.

After killing his brother, Prashant told the family members that Ashok had sustained serious injuries in an accident. He along with Somnath then rushed Ashok to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, Somnath smelt a rat and went back to the room where Ashok was found in an unconscious state. He found some bloodstains in the room and soon informed the police.

Ashok and Prashant were school dropouts and bachelors. The victim was working as a driver.

Sonawane said Prashant was having an illicit relationship due to which the two brothers used to scold him regularly. "Prashant was annoyed with the regular 'torture' and decided to kill Ashok on Tuesday morning," he said.
