Apollo Initiates Massive Expansion Plan

Apollo HospitalsChennai: Apollo Hospitals has chartered out a massive expansion plan with multi-location hospitals in Mumbai and plans to set up a full-fledged orthopaedic hospital in Chennai soon, a top official of the company said yesterday.

On the sidelines of a press discussion on the growth of the ‘Save a Child’s Heart’ plan Preecha Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals told, “We have tied-up with Western Hospitals in Mumbai and will set up Centres of Excellence at various places. Each hospital will have 250-300 beds each.”

She said that nearly Rs 600 crore has been portioned out for the growth in Mumbai and the company was in the course of settling and adopting land in New Mumbai, Thane, South Mumbai and Nasik.

Reddy said that Apollo would also be establishing an orthopaedic hospital in North Chennai with 200 beds with a total investment of about Rs 110 crore.

She added that the healthcare major would shortly begin work on building of their hospitals in Ahmedabad, Vishakapatnam and Bhubaneshwar.

"We expect our turnover to reach Rs 1,200 by the end of this year. We want to touch the 10,000 bed mark by 2010. Currently we have about 8,000 beds, both through tie-ups and our own,” Reddy also said.

The Consultancy section of Apollo would soon foray into Khazakhstan and Turkey, with facts of the affiliation for the latter almost settled.

Apollo also planned to set up are two schools and colleges of nursing at Madurai and Chennai by the end of the year.
