CM warns of action against pro-LTTE activities

CM warns of action against pro-LTTE activitiesOn Thursday, chief minister M Karunanidhi warned that legal actions would be taken against those who are functioning or speaking in support of the banned organizations. The announcement came as the signs of tension between the Congress and pro-LTTE parties were growing.

He further added, "The DMK does not support those who support organizations banned in India. If anyone speaks or acts in aid of such outfits, the DMK government will not hesitate to act against them as per law," he said in a statement. "This warning applies to all." Karunanidhi said that the DMK's final aim was the protection of Sri Lankan Tamils.

The remarks from Karunanidhi came in the backdrop of the Congress drawing the anger of some parties here for demanding the arrest of those making pro-LTTE utterances.

He further said, "Congress Lok Sabha MP S K Karvendhan complained that his house in Dharapuram in Erode district had been attacked in the early hours by unidentified persons. Party flags in his house were burnt."

After Congress leaders demanded the arrest of VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, a group of Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi activists allegedly attacked Sathyamurthy Bhavan, the TNCC headquarters.
