Debate on Telstra delayed as Communication Ministry assures it to happen
Today, the debate on the reform package for Telstra was scheduled to take place. But it did not happen since there has been no inclusion of the same in the Order of Business of the chamber.
This is not the first time that a debate has been postponed. It had happened earlier as well. But, says a statement from the Communication Ministry that the government is willing to debate on the issue, during sometime this week itself.
Meanwhile, there are growing concerns that the government is trying to shift the reform till May and that is why nothing proper has been done till now.
Even the Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy has said that the government is "willfully" trying to delay the whole process. He further added that the Opposition genuinely "stacked the list of speakers" so that no debate could take place.
It is important that the business on the reform is done within this week itself. The last day of Senate's meeting is Friday and after that it would meet for just three days in May. And since the Internet filtering legislation also needs to be cleared, the reform as many expect, would get further pushed.
