Deputy Premier Discloses His Illness, Revealing it as Epilepsy
Queensland Deputy Premier Paul Lucas has publically revealed his illness, that he has been diagnosed with epilepsy following a health scare at home on Sunday night.
However, this is not the first time he has faced a health scare as a politician. He fainted while moving a barbecue at a friend's home way back in December 2008.
"It is a little bit peculiar for epilepsy to manifest itself at my age ... but I'm looking forward to functioning and being back fighting fit',' Mr Lucas revealed in sheer confidence and optimism.
The 47-year-old health minister was immediately admitted to the Mater Private Hospital after finding himself in a "disassociated state'' in his Wynnum home. However, he was released from hospital on Monday night and the workaholic was back on track with his work today.
"It is really important that people understand that a medical condition, whether it is this, is not a reason why they can't continue to work in many instances,’ he urged.
Ms Chapman reveals that the majority of people get diagnosed with it in their youth or when they're aged over 60. However, only 10 per cent are diagnosed in their 30s and 40s.
