According to the Web analysis firm Experian Hitwise, the social networking giant Facebook displaced the leader Google after a long term of leadership in web traffic over the last one week.

The company said that Zuckerberg's Facebook has become the #1 visited website by the Americans in the week ended March 13. While Facebook was successfully able to capture 7.07% of the total web traffic, Google had to satisfy its thirst with 7.03% share. It is believed that the pace has empowered the social networking giant to surpass the gigantic Google, on the one hand Facebook registered an increase of 185% in the particular week, Google managed only a rise of a mere 9% during the week. The moment is surely calls for celebration for Facebook as it has been the top visited website for several days but not for a full week.

It is since Sept. 15, 2007 that Google has been the most visited website in the web space. Ironically, the search engine also passed another social networking portal myspace. com to gain the pole position. However, the firm only undertakes the domains i. e. Google. com or Facebook. com and not urls like gmail. com for calculations.
