Former Hooters girl sues Hawaiian Tropic Zone for discrimination

New York, Jan 28: A former Hooters girl, whose dream has been to work at the theme restaurant Hawaiian Tropic Zone, has instead sued it for discrimination.

Melody Morales had been very eager to work as one of the bikini-clad beauties at the Times Square restaurant, but a manager there rejected her because of her accent and told her to get lost.

"You don''t speak white and you are ghetto," the New York Daily News quoted Morales as recalling the managers words.

"I am not going to ruin my business with your Latin accent," he had told her when she had gone with her mother to the restaurant last March to look for a job.

Morales, 21, a Latino, says that she has the right assets for the job with her ample 34-D cup size.

"Not to brag, but I look good in a bikini. I could have done a perfect job there," she said.

After she was rejected the first time she went back again with hopes of landing a job, but she was rejected yet again.

"We will not hire you because you have a speech problem, and you have a Latin accent," another manager told her.

As per Morales' lawyer, Derek Smith, it is illegal to discriminate.

"It is 100 percent illegal to discriminate because of where you''re from or because you have an accent," he said.

"Melody certainly has the assets for this job," he added.

A lawyer for the Riese Organization, which operates the Hawaiian Tropic Zone, said that the suit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, was "without merit."

"We are proud of the many Latino and Latina employees in our diverse workforce," James Rosenzweig said. (ANI)
