The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has finally swung into action. On Wednesday, it sent closure notices to the 11 godowns in the city from where large quantities of biomedical waste were recovered by the AMC. It also slapped a show-cause notice on Rajasthan Hospitals for not disposing of its biomedical waste in the proper manner.
The notice to Rajasthan Hospitals, one of the major private hospitals in the city, has been sent under section 5 of the Environment Protection Act-1986. “The hospital has to reply within five days why it is not segregating and disposing of its waste properly,” said HP Patel, head of the biomedical waste unit at the GPCB.
