Hearing on pleas against Maya, Patel bail today

The appeals against the anticipatory bail granted to Maya Kodnani and Jaydeep Patel will come up for hearing before justice DH Waghela on Tuesday. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had filed its appeals against the order of the city sessions court granting the leaders anticipatory bail.

Kodnani, minister of state for higher education and woman and children welfare, is facing protests not only from the SIT, but also from three witnesses in the Naroda Patia and Naroda Gaam cases, who moved an application seeking to join as party in the appeal filed by the SIT.

Imtiaz Khureshi, a witness in the Naroda Gaam case, and Dildar Sayyed, a witness in the Naroda Patia case, said Kodnani and VHP leader Patel should not be granted bail on the grounds that they were highly influential people and could tamper with evidence if granted bail.

In its plea, the SIT said that, "… from one of the statements, it has been revealed that Kodnani fired from her pistol, as well as from one of the statements, it has been revealed that she had come to the spot in a car with others and distributed swords amongst the mob."
