Heavy Rains Claim Twenty Eight Lives In Tamil NaduHeavy rains, under the influence of the depression over the Bay of
Bengal, lashed different parts of Tamil Nadu. In the event, normal life
has been disrupted and already twenty eight people have lost there
lives.

According to the police most of the deaths have been either due to electrocution or wall collapses.

The Meteorological office has predicted that the depression, centred
about 50 km off the Vedaranyam coast, is likely cross the coast on
Wednesday evening between Vedanrayam and Pamban.

Chennai city is experiencing heavy rains since Tuesday night. The
Meteorological department said that Tamil Nadu is likely to continue
experiencing heavy rains till Thursday.

Fishermen have been cautioned not to venture into the sea because
strong onshore winds with maximum speed reaching 45-55 km are expected
to sweep along Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast during the next 24
hours.

Schools and colleges, in Chennai as well as several other districts, have declared a holiday on Wednesday.

Chief minister M Karunanidhi has asked ministers, MPs and MLAs to personally look into flood relief work
