Hiru, Bhave for NZ

Surendra Bhave and Narendra Hirwani will be the visiting selectors in New Zealand. At least one member of the national selection committee is likely reach there during, if not before, the start of the one-day series. The other may join him later. Both will stay on till the end of the series.

It is learnt that the selection committee has identified the two on the basis of their availability. North Zone's Yashpal Sharma and East's Raja Venkat are unable to make the trip for different reasons. Yashpal has suffered personal tragedies and has conveyed to the Board about his inability to make the trip.

Sources in the selection committee say the members seem to be in favour of series-by-series rotation rather than dividing a series among themselves. Sources in the committee also add that Krishnamachari Srikkanth may also take a flight to New Zealand at some point of time during the Test series. That is, however, not yet confirmed. Srikkanth, however, refused to say anything. "There are some guidelines for me. I'm not supposed to speak on this," he told DNA.

BCCI secretary's office confirmed that some selectors would be visiting New Zealand but said it did not have the details. The Board is yet to get the dates of the two selectors' travel programmes. It is likely that Hirwani may join Bhave in New Zealand at a later date as the Central Zone selection committee wants to wait till the end of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Agartala before picking the squad for the Deodhrar Trophy.

It will be the first-ever overseas trip for the members of the Srikkanth-led committee since it took charge in October 2008. The previous committee had differences with Board over foreign visits and the BCCI , one may recall, had even imposed a temporary moratorium on selectors' overseas trips. The issue, however, was later resolved.
