Israeli PM hails Gaza truce as 'victory' over Hamas

Benjamin-NetanyahuLondon, Aug 28 : Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly welcomed the end of seven-week long fighting in Gaza as a "victory for Gaza."

Netanyahu said during an interview that the militant group Hamas was hit hard as none of its demands was met. He also held a large rally to celebrate the victory, reported the BBC.

A ceasefire agreement brokered by Cairo on Tuesday ended 50 days of raging conflict which has claimed the lives more than 2,200 people, mostly Palestinians.

As Israel eased the blockade on Gaza Strip, a United Nations convoy made its way to the region for the first since 2007, carrying enough food to feed around 150,000 people for five days, said the UN's World Food Programme on Wednesday. (ANI)
