Jammu, July 30 : Jammu continued to observe a shutdown for the seventh consecutive day called by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Samiti against the revocation of State Government’s order to transfer forestland to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

All shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed and traffic was off the roads.

"The region has been simmering over the past few weeks now. The agitation has been on not just for 2 -3 days, it has been increasing day by day. It is high time that the government should spring to action, it should come forwards for a dialogue to resolve the issue," said Vipan khajuria, a resident.

The shutdown comes in the wake of the Amarnath Samiti’s demand for the allocation of 40 hectares of forestland to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

The State Government on July 1 had withdrawn its May 26 order to allocate 40 hectare of land to the shrine board following massive street protests against the order. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had to resign over the issue following his Government’s failure to win a trust vote in the State Assembly. (ANI)
