Jaya Bachchan Says ‘No’ To Rajya Sabha Nomination

Jaya Bachchan Says ‘No’ To Rajya Sabha NominationActress-politician Jaya Bachchan has rejected the Rajya Sabha nomination offered to her by the Samajwadi Party.

Mrs. Bachchan turned down the offer to re-nominate her for the Rajya Sabha election next month citing her family's displeasure.

Jaya, who was re-nominated for a second term by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, sent a message from Istanbul.

The declaration also reflected the altered equations between Amar Singh and the Bachchan family.

Amar used to call himself the younger brother of Amitabh Bachchan. He often stated the Bachchans were like family to him.

When Amar Singh left the Samajwadi Party, it was widely conjectured that Jaya would also go with him.

However, Jaya remained with the SP, raising eyebrows. Jaya did support her political mentor in the days before he finally left the SP, but distanced herself later. (With Inputs from Agencies)
