Kama Sutra is just a 'word' in Florida school

Kama Sutra is just a 'word' in Florida schoolWashington, Oct 2 : Kama Sutra, the Indian tome of love, is creating one huge stir in Florida with a school in Lee county choosing to teach it as a vocabulary word.

A handful of parents are shocked about what their kids are reading in their history book with some saying lovemaking and the classroom shouldn't mix, ABC-7. com reported. But the school's principal says Kama Sutra is simply a part of India's literary history.

The school, Gateway Charter, teaches the word as part of an advanced placement (AP) course on world civilizations. Officials there say the textbook and vocabulary list are AP regulated on a national scale.

Gateway Charter Principal Joe Roles wouldn't go on camera the channel said, but said in a statement: "It is our responsibility to teach the approved curriculum in the context in which it is presented."

The parents the channel spoke with said learning about what they called the art of sex is unacceptable. But officials at Gateway Charter said as long as the term Kama Sutra is on AP tests, it'll be brought up in classrooms.(IANS)
