Karmapa monastery raid

The 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje’s monastery has been raided by Himachal Pradesh police. During investigation, Himachal Pradesh government found benami (proxy) land deals by the trust headed by Karmapa. They also detained some foreign currency from the Karmapa’s Gyuto Monastery at Sidhbari near Dharamsala.

As a result of this raid the government has frozen all the bank accounts of the trust. The trust reportedly has four accounts with different banks in Kangra district. Police has raided the monastery and interrogated Karmapa regarding the important documents obtained from his aides about recent financial transactions.

Sources reveal that out of four accounts, one of the bank account is at Nagrota-Bhagwan branch of a leading nationalised bank and the account was opened without any proper verification. This account shows a transaction of Rs
6 core in last four to five years

Police is trying to retrieve data from that computers and different SIM cards found in the monastery during the raid. Moreover, police has obtained some records of land and financial transaction.

While Karmapa’s adviser Karma Topden, continued to disagree with all the allegations related to improper land deals.

Himachal Pradesh Director-General of Police D S Minhas said that huge amount of foreign currency including Chinese Yuan was apprehended from the Gyutso monastery during raids and the case is moving in the right direction.
