KEC International plans to enter telecom biz; to pump Rs 100 croreKEC International, part of the Rs 13,500-crore RPG Group, engaged in laying of power transmission lines on EPC basis globally, is reportedly planning to enter the business of erecting telecom towers in the rural areas as a part of its diversification plans.

The company aims to invest Rs 100 crore for this business plan, under which it would set up 400 telecom towers in the rural areas.

According to the company, there will be a strong demand for rural infrastructure in the next three years as the government aims to achieve 32.74 percent penetration which will mainly be driven by growth in rural subscribers.

In latest press releases, the Government has announced that it will provide 50% subsidy to those companies, who are willing to setup mobile towers in rural areas.

KEC International is constructing telecom towers at three manufacturing units in Jabalpur, Jaipur and Nagpur. Its total manufacturing capacity at present is 1.8 lakh tons, including 70,000 tons of contracted capacity.

Apart from this, KEC also plans to get into infrastructure development for the Railways, which will include laying of cross-country railway tracks.
