Manmohan Singh urges international community to restore peace in Gaza

manmohan singhChennai, Jan 8 : Strongly condemning Israeli attacks on Gaza, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today said that the international community would get together and help restore peace in the region.

"India has strongly condemned these incidents and it is our hope that the international community would get together and help restore peace in the region as soon as possible," Dr. Singh while inaugurating the 7th Indian Diaspora convention here.

"I wish to reiterate our unstinted and unwavering support for the just Palestinian cause," he added.

The strikes have caused a lot of tensions in the region, where he said a number of Indian workers were living.

"We are concerned at the rise in tensions in the region as a result of the attack in Gaza that has led to the needless loss of lives of many innocent men, women and children. We have put in place several measures for better protection and welfare of our workers overseas, including by entering into inter-governmental agreements," he added.

At least 660 Palestinians, including over 200 children and nearly 100 women, have been killed in the Gaza Strip since Israel launched its military offensive on December 27.

Close to 3,000 others have been wounded in the attacks. (ANI)
