Manoj Kumar Files Suits Against SRK; Seeks Re 1 In Damages

It seems that the former actor Manoj Kumar is not going to spare the King of Bollywood, Sharukh Khan that easily. The issue that rose with making fun of the senior actor Manoj Kumar in the 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om still has a long way to go.

On Tuesday, Manoj Kumar filed two legal suits against the SRK, his wife and producer Gauri Khan and the director of OSO, Farah Khan.

Khan had earlier assured Kumar that the scene, which makes fun of him, would be deleted from the movie. However, this did not happen and the movie was screened in all theatres without the deletion of the scene.

Manoj Kumar was really agitated with the way he had been portrayed in Om Shanti Om, produced by Red Chilly Entertainment owned by SRK.

Kumar claimed in the Bombay High court that the scenes in the movie where he has been mimicked were not deleted in spite the assurance given by the film makers and thus it has lead to his defamation.

Kumar’s lawyer Ashok Sarogi said, “A legal suit under sections 420 (cheating), 499 (defamation) and 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code has been filed today before the metropolitan court against actor Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan and Farah Khan.”

To add more, a case of defamation was filed before a sessions court seeking Re1 as damages. Sarogi said that this suit is filed to make them realize that they canot harm anyone’s reputation as per their wish.

The court last week had passed Kumar’s application seeking deletion of scenes that make fun of him before the movie was telecasted on television august 10. The application which will be heard in court on August 18, said that Sahrukh Khan had personally assured Manoj Kumar that the scenes would be deleted before it would reach the theatres. However, it clearly didn’t happen and the movie reached the theatres with the scenes.

The biggest blockbuster of 2007, OSO faced controversy even before it was released. Now that it’s going be a year since the movie has been released, it seems that controversies have made it its favorite child.
