A medical college’s compassionate move
At the Royal College of GPs (RCGP), the health officials want to spend more time with patients for consultations. This they would do without any rise in their pays.
The ones with small injuries can see a nurse, whereas ones with long-term disease will have to ring a bell for help or go online for a video consultation.
For the patients with prolonged disease such as hypertension, heart failure and depression, who want more time with their doctor, personal time would be given. This time would also be dedicated to know the potential side-effects which might happen because of the medicines.
NHS is considering this as positive move which will save the lives as well as save the finances borne by the medicinal care.
As the doctors do not expect a raise and are content with their present £106,000 a year, this will help many.
Katherine Murphy, Director of the Patients Association said, "Very often people think the GP is the only one that can fix their problem and insist on seeing him, sometimes needlessly. People have seen their GP as the gatekeeper to medical services. That idea needs to change."
