Nadal's injury "seems nothing serious," says coach

Nadal's injury "seems nothing serious," says coach Manacor, Spain  - The injury that hampered world number one Rafael Nadal in the final in Rotterdam "seems nothing serious," says his uncle and coach Toni Nadal.

"In principle it seems nothing serious," he told Deutsche Presse- Agentur dpa Monday.

Nadal - the recent champion at the Australian Open - lost the final Sunday to Andy Murray 6-4, 4-6, 6-0, and evidenced problems in his right knee.

"When he stepped onto the court he was already not feeling well," Toni Nadal noted. "He took a painkiller, but it did not work. In the third set he could no longer serve."

Rafa Nadal was set to honour several advertising commitments Monday in Madrid, and he made the most of the trip to the Spanish capital to visit his doctor, Angel Ruiz Cotorro, for further testing.

"Until the doctor says what he has we will know nothing concrete, but in principle it seems nothing serious," Toni Nadal insisted.

When asked whether this is a similar injury to the one that Nadal suffered in late 2008 - which forced him to miss the Shanghai Masters and the Davis Cup final, - the coach stressed that the present problem "is a little bit lower."

Toni Nadal thinks his nephew should be able to play in Dubai next week, although the final decision will depend on whether he wants to play the Davis Cup series against Serbia a week later in Spain.

Dubai tournament organizers were set to pay a significant sum of money to have Nadal, who already played the last three editions of the tournament. (dpa)
