I didn't spend 14 months in jail to cut a deal with Musharraf: Sharif

Former Pakistan premier Nawaz SharifLahore, Jan 22: Former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif has said that he did not spend 14 months in jail to cut a deal with President Pervez Musharraf, whose power he said was "on the decline".

Sharif said the reports of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's contacts with Musharraf were baseless, the ARY reported.

He denied reports that a meeting between PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif and Musharraf was scheduled in London.

Sharif said the simultaneous presence of Shahbaz, Musharraf and Brigadier (retired) Niaz Ahmad in London was a co-incidence.

He also denied reports that Shahbaz Sharif met British Foreign Minister David Miliband.

Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif denied that he was scheduled to meet Musharraf, the Daily Times reported.

He did not deny a meeting with Miliband, but said he had asked "British officials" he had met to exercise their influence to ensure free and fair elections in Pakistan. (ANI)
