Gold price drops Rs 180 on low demand, global cues

New Delhi: Gold prices on Tuesday fell by Rs 180 to Rs 28,270 per ten gram at the bullion market, snapping its two-day rising streak, as demand from jewellers and retailers eased at prevailing levels amid a weak global trend.

Silver, however, recovered by Rs 450 to Rs 38,450 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

Traders said besides fall in demand at existing levels from jewellers and retailers at domestic markets, a weak global trend as investors weighed prospects for higher US interest rates mainly kept pressure on gold prices.

Gold in New York, which normally sets price trend on the domestic front, fell 0.72 percent to USD 1,273.80 an ounce in yesterday's trade.

Washington, Feb 5 - Soon all you may have to do is pop a pill to get over the urge to eat, as scientists have identified the peptide that can reduce our hunger cravings.

Using an experimental model, the researchers found when administering pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide (PACAP), a peptide and hormone produced by neurons, in a specific area of the brain called the "central amygdala," it reduced the intake of food and led to weight loss.

The study may one day lead to medications that treat obesity and binge eating disorders.

Space research reveals possibility of more Earth-like planets supporting life

They found the standard star has about two planets in the so-called goldilocks zone, the distance from the star where liquid water, crucial for life, can exist.

FCC chief proposes slew of 'stringent measures' to ensure net neutrality for US internet users

London, Feb 05 - The chairman of the U. S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has reportedly proposed a slew of "strong" measures to ensure that the principles of net neutrality are upheld.

Describing his vision as the "strongest open internet protections ever proposed by the FCC," Tom Wheeler said in an article that he intended to impose new restrictions on how fixed line and mobile broadband providers handle data, reported the BBC.

Wheeler explained that he wanted to reclassify internet service providers (ISPs) to make them like any other public utility, in order to ensure that they can be regulated by the watchdog.

He proposed a series of enforceable, bright-line rules that will prohibit paid prioritisation, and the blocking and throttling of lawful content and services.
