Novel Class of Experimental Drugs may reduce Risk of Cardiovascular Problems

On the basis of preliminary evidence, researchers stated that a new class of experimental drugs, one being developed by Amgen and the other by Sanofi and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, might be able to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

These drugs are said to be already known to significantly reduce bad cholesterol. In fact, there are some cases in which these drugs have reduced the cholesterol level to an extent not even achieved by statins.

However, earlier it was not known whether these drugs are able to protect heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular problems. The early results do indicate that they might be able to do so. The manufacturers have sponsored small studies.

Federal Officials Warn not to Approach closer than 500 Yards of Right Whales

A new program has been started to find out the best way to tag the endangered whales for satellite tracking. Under this program, scientists tagged three right whales this past winter.

To get closer to whales to tag them, the researchers held a federal permit. Others who do not have the permit have to maintain a distance. On Friday, federal officials warned that spring breakers and others should not come closer than 500 yards of a right whale.

A right whale comes under endangered species. It is considered that its number would be around 450 to 500 whales around the world. This year, right whales have given birth to 17 calves. Right whales and their calves continue to migrate along Southeastern Florida, including the Space Coast News.

FCC Delays Comcast and AT&T Review Again

Once again, the FCC has decided to pause the 180-day "shot clock" on its regulatory reviews for the prospective mergers of Comcast and Time Warner Cable, and AT&T and DirecTV.

The agency has again mentioned the pending court decisions on how to handle the disclosures of information related to deals made by the MVPDs with programming companies as the main reason behind the move.

In the announcement, the FCC said, "At this time, we believe it is prudent to pause the informal 180-day transaction clocks because the commission would be advantaged by knowing the resolution of the pending Petition for Review before the transaction clocks reach the 180-day mark, which both are slated to do by the end of March".

NASA should Focus more on Space Exploration, Not Earth Sciences: Ted Cruz

Both the respected personalities were giving their opinions about what the outlook of NASA should be during hearing on Obama’s $18.5 billion budget (fiscal year 2016) request for NASA.

California left with one year of water, says NASA scientist

According to a NASA scientist, only one year of water is left in California because of a decreasing ground water supply.

According to UC Irvine hydrologist professor and JPL water expert Jay Famiglietti, "The situation is probably worse than we all think, and we need to really tighten our belts when it comes to water and really try to use a lot less".

He said that groundwater and snowpack levels are at record low and this could lead to drought conditions. Famiglietti said that the situation is much worse than what is thought and it has to be taken seriously and people should try to use less quantity of water.
