New York, Feb 11 - NBC chiefs have suspended anchor Brian Williams for six months without pay for telling a false war story repeatedly, putting a major blemish on the career of one of America's star newscasters.

NBC News President Deborah Turness said that they have decided today to suspend Brian Williams for six months without pay and is effective immediately and so Lester Holt will continue to substitute Anchor the NBC Nightly News, the New York Post reported.

Mirach calls off Sahara loan deal, returns fees

Mirach Capital, run by Indian origin businessman Saransh Sharma, who had emerged as a white-knight in Sahara's efforts to secure release of its jailed chief Subrata Roy till its USD 2.05 billion financing deal got embroiled in an alleged "forged letter" controversy, maintained that the Indian group remains an "unwilling seller".

Swine Flu: Toll crosses 100 in Rajasthan, 40 in Maharashtra

New Delhi, Feb. 11 - The swine flu toll in Maharashtra and Rajasthan has reached 100 and 40 respectively.

According to reports, six deaths have been recorded in Mumbai due to the H1N1 virus outbreak while five more casualties were reported in Rajasthan on Tuesday.

A total of 205 swine flu cases have been recorded in Maharashtra, according to the state authorities, while 49 fresh cases were reported in Delhi with the total number of cases due to the disease going up to 488 this year.

Reports add that all civic hospitals in Mumbai have been asked to keep at least two ventilators on standby for H1N1 patients and an adequate stock of Tamiflu has been procured.

The BMC has also reportedly started a helpline over the outbreak.

Washington, Feb 11 - Justin Bieber has managed to avoid 5 days of community service, thanks to his soccer injury .

Though the 20-year-old pop star has completed 9 out of 12 anger management classes, he hasn't picked up any trash, because, as per his lawyer Shawn Holley, Bieber had "screwed up his foot," TMZ. com reported.

Holley submitted a progress report in court for the 'Baby' singer's 'egging the neighbor' case, and even submitted a doctor's note to satisfy the judge.

According to the probation report, the probation officer wrote that "Bieber has displayed a cooperative attitude and has expressed a sincere desire to be more diligent in complete anger management and community labor."

Sensex rises 134 points; Nifty reclaims 8,600-mark

Mumbai: The benchmark BSE Sensex rose over 134 points in early trade Wednesday on value-buying by investors in selective stocks amidst optimism over the upcoming Budget.

The 30-share index gained 134.85 points, or 0.48 percent, to 28,490.47 with capital goods, consumer durables, banking, healthcare, power, auto and metal sector stocks, leading the rise.

The index had gained 128.23 points in the previous session.

Also, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty reclaimed the 8,600-mark by rising 47.10 points, 0.55 percent, to 8,612.65.

Brokers said value-based buying by investors as select shares turned attractive after recent losses and optimism over the upcoming Budget, influenced trading sentiments here.
