New Delhi, Oct 4 : Terming the Jet-Etihad deal as a positive for the struggling Indian civil aviation sector, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh Friday said the alliance will provide passengers multiple options and open possibilities of India becoming a travel hub.

"This alliance between Jet-Etihad is positive for the industry. It will ultimately benefit the passengers and grow the sector further," Singh told IANS.

The market ended the week on a flat note. The 50-share index Nifty bounced back from support of 5700 and headed towards 5950 mark on the back of stronger rupee and weak US job data where it managed to close with the gain of 1.27 %. The BSE Sensex rose 4% while INR appreciated 5% as compared to US Dollar, driven by RBI's confidence building measures to support INR.

Damascus, Oct 4 :  Syrian President Bashar al-Assad Friday said he will not run in next year's presidential elections if his countrymen do not welcome the move.

“If the Syrian people don't want me, I won't stand for office," Assad said in an interview with Turkey's Halk TV channel.

It was still too early to take such a decision, however, said Assad, whose forces are mired in a devastating 30-month-old conflict with rebels seeking to overthrow the government.

New Delhi, Oct 4 : Telecom service provider Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) Friday announced that it has received its Unified Licence from the government that will allow it to do liberal use of telecom technologies for providing latest services.

SSTL provides telecom services under the brand name MTS. It is a venture involving equity participation by Russia's Sistema, the Russian Federation government and the Shyam Group of India.

Women at Fatehpura village, who have availed of HDFC's Sustainable Livelihood Initiative (SLI), spoke of how they have become self-reliant and empowered. The village is about 15 km from Chomu.

HDFC Bank managing director Aditya Puri said the initiative "will substitute money lenders and sustain the unorganised sector".

London, Oct 4 : New car sales in Britain continued to rise in September, hitting a record high in five years, according to figures released Friday by the car traders organisation.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said, the new car registrations in September surged 12.1 percent to reach 403,136 units, boosted by strong private demand which rose to 16.7 percent year-on-year in the month. This helped overall market to rise by 10.8 percent, reports Xinhua.
