Bangalore, May 3 : It has been a bitter five years marked by corruption, intrigue and vicious infighting with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) splitting right down the middle but Karnataka voters hope to put it behind them when they vote in a new assembly Sunday.

The polls have drawn national attention as the ruling BJP and the Congress, the two major contenders for power, are locked in a bitter war of words over corruption.

Mumbai, May 3 : Actress Priyanka Chopra's cousin Meera has clarified that there is no tiff between them but they are not the best of friends either.

"There is no tiff as such. In fact, our families are very close. My parents are very close to Priyanka's parents. It's just that we are not close buddies. So there is no tiff between us," Meera said at the muhurat of her film "Gang of Ghosts" here Thursday.

Not new to showbiz, Meera made her debut in films with hit Tamil movie "Anbe Aaruyire" and went to do several southern movies like "Vaana" and "Maaro".

Mumbai, May 3 : The death of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh following a murderous assault in a Lahore jail was a "blot" on India's reputation, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said Friday.

"Sarabjit Singh was killed inside a high-security Pakistani jail. It means that Pakistan wanted him killed. Earlier, Chamel Singh was similarly killed and recently Pakistani soldiers mutiliated two of our soldiers on the border," Thackeray said in an editorial in party mouthpiece "Saamana".

Chicago, May 3 : General Motors said its profit fell 13.8 percent in the first quarter of 2013 from last year's $1 billion.

The largest US automaker reported net income of $865 million in the first quarter, or 58 cents a share, which beat analysts' expectations, reported Xinhua.

GM earned an adjusted $1.4 billion in North America before interest and taxes in the first quarter. Company officials attributed weaker profit in North America to GM's numerous new vehicle launches and a drop in wholesale deliveries as it changes over plants.

New Delhi, May 3 : An inquiry was on in the attack on a Pakistani prisoner in a jail in Jammu, union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said here Friday.

"The incident took place at 8-8.30 a. m. There was an attack on a Pakistani inmate in Jammu jail. An inquiry is being conducted," Shinde told reporters.

He, however, refused to comment if it was in retaliation to the attack and consequent death of Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan.
