North East Line train services are running normally, SBS Transit
SBS Transit has that all the train services on the North East Line (NEL) are now running normally after 4:35pm after services were disrupted due to a power fault.
The train operator said that North East Line was affected by a power fault this morning just before 10 am. The operator had detected the fault in a stretch in the tunnel between HarbourFront and Outram Park stations. SBS Transit has said in the morning that the company engineers are working to resolve the problem.
The engineers had traced the problem to the Overhead Catenary System in the tunnel. The train services were disrupted after 10:14am to allow the company engineers to fix the issue affecting the power supply in the network. Estimates showed that about 90,000 commuters were left stranded on the stations due to the disruption.
The affected stretch covered about a third of 16-station North East Line, on which the services had begun in 2003. The services on the line are generally used by thousands of commuters during the morning, lunch and evening hours.
Singapore's metro services have seen a series of disruptions since December 2011, including three disruptions in three days in April.
