Benazir Bhutto says poll boycott an option

Karachi, Nov 20 : Anticipating the possibility of the Musharraf regime rigging the general elections, former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has said that her party—the Pakistan People’s Party—might boycott the polls scheduled for January 8, 2008.

Benazir said that she has received information from a credible source and her party has written a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retired) Qazi Mohammad Farooq on this issue

She said that the PPP and other opposition parties would launch a countrywide movement against the Musharraf regime if it continued with its pick and choose policy and rigged the elections.

She also confirmed that her party is divided over the issue of participation in the general elections.

Infant strapped with bombs used at Benazir’s October 18 rally

Karachi, Nov 20 (ANI): An infant that was strapped with bombs was used to carry out the October 18 bombing on former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s homecoming rally in which over 170 were killed, sources have said.

A man, carrying this infant, tried several times to hand over the child either to Benazir or any other Pakistan People’s Party leader close to her, but something always prevented him from reaching close by, The News quoted the sources, as saying.

“At the point on Sharea Faisal where the bombs exploded, Benazir saw the man with the child and asked him to come closer so that she could hug or kiss the infant. But someone came in between and a guard felt that the man with the child was not behaving normally, ” the daily reported.
