Barack Obama, Carla Bruni, Prince Harry make it to ‘Heroes of 2008’ list

London, Dec 21: U. S. President-elect Barack Obama, Britain's Prince Harry, French first lady Carla Bruni have made it to a new list of `The Heroes of 2008'.

The list was compiled by the Telegraph.

Olympic golden boy Michael Phelps joined the list too.

Tina Fey, famous for her impersonation of Alaska governor Sarah Palin on `Saturday Night Live', was also included in the list.

BBC former chief political correspondent John Sergeant, and Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, also featured in the list.

The Heroes of 2008 are:

Bruni-Sarkozy to be ambassador in the fight against AIDS

Carla Bruni SarkozyParis - France's First Lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, is to be named later Monday a special ambassador in the global fight against AIDS.

Bruni-Sarkozy, whose brother died from the disease, will become a special ambassador for the the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, an international fund-raising organization.

"Of course, I'm particularly sensitive to this issue because of my brother," the 40-year-old former top model told Elle magazine. "But I am generally very sensitive to the cause of fighting AIDS. It's a pandemic. We forget; we are used to it."

Bruni, who married French President Nicolas Sarkozy after a whirlwind romance in Feb, will take up the reins as a figurehead in the global fight against the killer disease.

It was expected that the lady in question would be appointed an “ambassador” for the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria, a Geneva-based organisation backed by the United Nations.

London, Nov 20 : France’s First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has said that her country is delighted that Barack Obama has won the U. S. presidential election.

Bruni-Sarkozy, who is in the US to promote her album “Comme Si de Rien N''Etait”, was on the “Late Show With David Letterman” on November 18 when she spoke about the presidential choice.

“France is thrilled, delighted,” the Telegraph quoted her as having said on the show.

“I think the whole world is delighted,” she added.

She was even asked whether her husband, who met U. S. President George W. Bush last weekend at a crisis summit of world leaders, got along well with his American counterpart.

“They have to. No choice,” she said.
