Pal’s houses raided by IT Officials

Houses of M. L. Pal were raided by the IT Officials, which came as a serious embarrassment for Soren. Pal has on house in Jamshedpur and two in Ranchi. Furthermore, search and seizure operations in 70 locations across the country, including Patna, Delhi, Mumbai and Chaibasa, were also carried out by IT Officials.

Koda in hospital, condition stable

Madhu KodaRanchi, Dec 29 : Former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, at the centre of a Rs. 2,500 crore money laundering scam, who was hospitalized here Monday night after he complained of stomach pain is in stable condition, doctors said Tuesday.

Koda was Monday night shifted to Apollo Hospital from Birsa Munda Central Jail, Ranchi.

"Koda was admitted for complications of urinary tract infection. We will soon decide regarding removal of the ureteral stent that was inserted into Koda's kidney two and half months ago," P. D. Sinha, a doctor at Apollo Hospital Ranchi told reporters.

Seven Koda ministers lose election

Madhu KodaRanchi, Dec 23 : His wife Geeta Koda has won, but scam tainted Madhu Koda's seven former ministerial colleagues Wednesday lost the Jharkhand assembly election.

These include former deputy chief ministers Sudhir Mahto and Stephen Marandi. While Mahto was a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate and lost to the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajantantrik (JVM-P), Marandi contested on a Congress ticket and was defeated by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's nominee Hemant Soren -- Rajya Sabha MP and son of party chief Shibu Soren.

The other ministerial colleagues who lost were Kamlesh Singh, Bhanu Pratap Sahi, Aprna Sen Gupta, Dulal Bhuiya and Jhobha Manjhi.

Madhu Koda's wife wins Jharkhand pollRanchi, Dec 23 - Geeta Koda, the wife of graft-tainted former chief minister Madhu Koda, Wednesday won the assembly election from Jagganthpur constituency defeating Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Sonaram Biruwa.

Geeta Koda secured 28,437 votes and defeated Biruwa by over 8,000 votes. She dedicated her victory to her husband, who is at the center of Rs. 2,500 crore money laundering scam.

"It is the victory of my husband. This is the victory of the people and it is also the victory of honesty of Madhu Koda," Geeta Koda said.

Court permits ED to quiz KodaRanchi, Dec 19 : A court here Saturday permitted the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to interrogate jailed former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda who is allegedly involved in a Rs. 2,500 crore money laundering scam.

The Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court of Pankaj Kumar granted the permission at the request of the ED.

ED officials have also been permitted to visit five foreign countries - Thailand, Dubai, Indonesia, Sweden and Liberia - and gather evidence of investments there.

The polling for the fifth and final phase of the five-phased Jharkhand assembly elections began amidst tight security on Friday morning.

Tight security arrangements have been made, as there are chances of violence taking place in the Maoist-dominated areas.

"The RBI (Reserve Bank of India) has found defects of a technical nature," Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said during question hour in the Rajya Sabha.

According to Jharkhand Police, the duo were admitted to hospital on the court’s direction.

"Both Madhu Koda and Kamlesh Singh were brought to the hospital this morning and doctor R. K. Jha, who is the acting head of the medicine, is treating both of them,” said RIMS Director M. K. Rai.

The minister said the investigation will cover the areas of tax evasion, money laundering and other irregularities.

Koda, former colleague shifted to hospitalRanchi, Dec 9 - Jailed former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda and his ex-cabinet colleague Kamlesh Singh were Wednesday shifted to a Ranchi hospital from jail for medical check-up, an official said.

They were taken to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) at the directive of the vigilance court, Birsa Munda Jail superintendent Deepak Vidhyarathi told IANS.

"RIMS doctors will decide whether they will be sent back to jail after check-up or admitted in the hospital," he said.

The State vigilance bureau arrested him on Monday morning.

Sinha's counsel R. Karanjawala also pleaded with the court that it would be unfair to arrest Sinha when Madhu Koda, who is the main accused in the multi-crore scam, has not been taken into curstody yet, escpecially when he is also willing to cooperate in investigations.

The vigilance bureau had summoned Koda for interrogation Friday after he failed to appear on the three dates -- Nov 11, 15, and 19 -- it had called him. According to sources, Koda had told the vigilance bureau he was busy in the election campaign and would appear before it after the ongoing five-phase polls to the state assembly ended Dec 18.

Madhu Koda will be questioned Nov 28, Inspector General of Police of the Jharkhand vigilance bureau M. V. Rao told IANS Thursday.

The Jharkhand vigilance department in August this year had lodged a first information report (FIR) against Koda and his three ex-cabinet colleagues Bandhu Tirkey, Bhanu Pratap Sahi and Kamlesh Singh.

Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha, the BJP demanded a discussion on the alleged scam. BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain alleged the Congress was trying to shield Koda as many Congressmen were also involved in the scam. “Koda got only a small share of the entire corrupt money,” he claimed.

Both the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department slapped a multi-crore money laundering case against Koda recently.

Interacting with the media, Koda said: “I have so far not received any summons. When I get one, I will answer it.”

He also reiterated that he was innocent and that all charges of illegal investments in various companies overseas levelled against him were baseless.
