Naveen Chawla to review MP poll preparedness todayBhopal, Apr 13 : Election Commissioner Navin Chawla will arrive here this afternoon to review poll preparedness in Madhya Pradesh for the coming Lok Sabha polls.

During his two-day visit, Chawla will hold meeting with representatives of political parties.

On Tuesday, he will take stock of preparations for the polls during a meeting with senior officials of twenty-six districts.

Besides, he will also meet state''s Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and DGP.

During his visit, Chawla will hold discussion with senior officials of the state to ensure free and fair polls.

He will also hold meeting with the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of the state regarding preparedness of 13 constituencies where the polling will be held in first phase on April 16.

Chawla will be accompanied by two Deputy Election Commissioners Dr Alok Shukla and J P Prakash.

During his visit, Chawla will hold discussion with representatives of various political parties and will take stock of arrangements for the upcoming elections. He will also discuss the law and order situation.

Naveen Chawla to replace Gopalaswami as CEC

Naveen ChawlaNew Delhi, Mar 1 : Election Commissioner Naveen Chawla has been appointed as next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

A Rashtrapati Bhavan commnique has said that the President Pratibha Patil has approved the name of Chawla for the post.

Patil on Sunday rejected CEC N Gopalaswami''s recommendation to remove Chawla from the poll panel.

The CEC had written to the President in January to remove Chawla, triggering an unseemly row in the constitutional panel and a bitter war of words between the Congress-led UPA government and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
