London, Nov 14 : Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has urged US president elect Barack Obama to take the initiative on issues from climate change to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a way to heal the divisions between America and Europe.

In an interview with the Guardian during a visit to Rwanda, the former prime minister said Obama''s election as US president opened up "an era of real possibility".

London, Nov 12: One of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s bodyguards triggered a security scare at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport when he accidentally fired a shot.

Blair was in Israel for peace talks and was rushed on to his plane amid the panic. The weapon went off as it was being unloaded ahead of the flight.

“There was an incident this morning at Ben Gurion Airport when one of Blair’s bodyguards’ guns accidentally went off,” police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.

London, Oct 16 : Former Prime Minister Tony Blair’s deputy has admitted that he disliked Cherie Blair, and accuses her of snobbery in his new documentary on class.

John Prescott admits that he did not like Tony Blair’s wife in the BBC programme, “Prescott: The Class System and Me.”

The film features the politician and his wife inside “Prescott Towers” in Hull and sees him visit middle and upper class bastions such as the Henley Regatta and the Hay-on-Wye Literary Festival.

Prescott admits in the BBC2 film: “We never got close to the Blairs... it just didn’t happen. We were not their set; certainly we were not her set.”

London, Oct. 14 : Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is facing a sleaze probe last night over claims he lied to MPs about a funding scandal.

Commons Speaker Michael Martin may recall Blair to Parliament to give him a chance to give his side of the story. Martin is “deeply concerned” over secret papers that said Blair did not tell the truth, The Sun says.

They show he personally intervened to exempt Formula 1 racing from a tobacco ad ban hours after meeting the sport’s multi-millionaire boss Bernie Ecclestone, who donated one million pounds to Labour, influenced the 1997 decision.

But the papers show he asked an aide just hours after the meeting to signal his support for the move.
