Re-polling for 75 booths in Assam's Karimganj District begins

Guwahati, Jan 22:Re-polling for 75 booths in Assam's Karimganj District begins Re-polling for seventy-five booths in Assam's Karimganj District of Barak Valley began today amidst tight security.

The re-polling is being held following election malpractices during the third phase of Panchayat election on January 9. The polling was held in the districts of Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, Nagaon, Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj and parts of Morigaon.

The schedule for re-polling in 309 centers in Hailakandi district is yet to be declared.

The final phase of polling in 14 Zilla Parishad and 75 Gaon Panchayat Constituencies in Darrang district will take place on January 24.

Around 70 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise in the first phase of the polls on December 31 while around 72 per cent cast their votes in the second phase on January 4.

Counting of votes will be held on January 28. (ANI)
