Bangalore, July 25 : India's third-biggest IT services exporter, Wipro Limited , posted fiscal first-quarter profit up 29.6 percent and forecast a surge in revenue on the back of stronger spending on outsourcing by overseas clients.
Bangalore-based Wipro, which inked a 10-year deal to manage IT outsourcing of Canadian energy and utilities firm Atco, said it expected IT services sales in this quarter to grow between 1.7 and 4 percent from the quarter ended June.

Bangalore: Wipro on Tuesday sought speeding up of departmental clearances, including those relating to environment and forest, as part of setting up of Kodathi SEZ project here.
"Azim Premji, Wipro Chairman, met me and requested the government to expedite departmental clearances, including environment, forest and BDA (Bangalore Development Authority) at the earliest to set up SEZ at Kodathi on the outskirts of the city," Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said.
Replying to a query, Siddaramaiah said Premji did not talk about the investment to be made in the project but said the SEZ would create 25,000 jobs in the first phase.
Bangalore: As he signed off his second innings at Infosys, industry icon N R Narayana Murthy on Saturday said the nation's second largest IT services firm Infosys had "diluted focus on meritocracy and accountability" in the past decade, forcing him to take "hard and tough decisions."
Bangalore: Set to wrap up his second innings, Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy on Thursday said he has fulfilled mandates given to him by the company's board and now plans to spend time with his grandchildren and read books.
"When the Board of Directors at Infosys requested me to come back last year they gave me two mandates, one - to assist them in finding an excellent successor to (CEO S D) Shibulal. The second mandate they gave me was to create a strong foundation for future growth of the company. I believe by and large I have fulfilled both of these obligations," he said.
Bangalore - Hit by several top-level exits, Infosys on Thursday undertook a major shake-up bringing in for the first time an outsider, Vishal Sikka, as CEO and announcing that mentor N R Narayana Murthy and his son Rohan will step down four years ahead of their tenure.
Sikka, 47, who was previously executive board member of German IT firm SAP, will replace S D Shibulal, one of the seven engineers who founded Infosys in 1981, from August 1, Infosys said in a statement.

Bangalore, June 2 : IT bellwether Wipro has bagged an order to provide cloud-based managed services to digital cable and broadband service provider DEN Networks.
The deal will enable DEN to transform into a B2C (business-to-customer) from B2B (business-to-business) firm.
"The 10-year-long contract will enable DEN to provide its customers, local cable operators and partners with real-time services, ensuring continuous engagement and zero downtime," the global software major said in a statement here Monday.

Bangalore, May 30 : India's second largest IT firm Infosys Ltd would soon name its new chief executive officer to succeed incumbent S. D. Shibulal as the selection process was in progress, executive chairman and co-founder N. R. Narayana Murthy said Friday.
"The selection process is progressing as planned and the nomination board will announce the new CEO at the conclusion of the process soon," Murthy told his employees in an e-mail.
Meanwhile, executive vice-chairman S. Gopalakrishnan and Shibulal will steer the $8.25-billion global software major with the company's board of directors.

It was more than a decade ago that scientists published the draft human genome sequence - an inventory of all the genes in humans - under the Human Genome project. However, an equivalent map for the human "proteome" with direct measurements of proteins and peptides did not exist so far.
Bangalore, May 28 : Infosys president and board member B. G. Srinivas has resigned, the IT bellwether said Wednesday.
"The resignation of Srinivas will be effective June 10," the global software major said in a terse statement here.
Srinivas was one of the front-runners for the post of the chief executive of the troubled company after incumbent S. D. Shibulal exited in January.
Bangalore, May 28 : Tata Power Solar Systems increased its manufacturing capacity to 200 MW from 125 MW to offer solar modules to domestic and overseas markets, a top official said Wednesday.
"The 60 percent capacity expansion will enable us to provide solar modules for increasing the share of renewable energy in the power sector and meet the increase in demand, thanks to pro-active policy steps such as domestic content requirement and anti-dumping duties," Tata Power Solar chief executive Ajay Goel told reporters here.
Bangalore, May 27 : India's third largest IT bellwether company Wipro Ltd is expanding its operations in Ireland to meet its business requirements in Britain.
"We plan to increase the headcount by 50 percent (100) in the next 12 months at the Shannon development centre in Dublin where we have about 200 engineers delivering IT services to banks and financial services firms across Ireland and Britain," the global software major said in a statement here Tuesday.
Bangalore, May 26 : The International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank is lending $147.5 million (Rs. 863 crore) to Jubilant Pharma, a Singapore-based subsidiary of drug major Jubilant Life Sciences, to ensure access to affordable drugs in underserved markets in India and other countries.
"The loan will help us increase focus on the pharmaceutical sector and strengthen its generic drug manufacturing facilities in India," Jubilant chairman Shyam S. Bhartia said in a statement Monday.
Bangalore, May 26 : India's largest e-tailer Flipkart Monday said it has raised $210 million in a fresh round of funding from a group of four investors led by DST Global, a leading Internet-focussed investment group.
Flipkart’s existing investors Tiger Global, Naspers and Iconiq Capital also participated in the financing round, the company said in a statement here.
This decision came only a few days after Flipkart May 22 announced it was acquiring Myntra, a leading e-retailer for fashion and lifestyle products. The deal was estimated to be worth about $300 million (Rs. 1,740 crore), according to sources involved in the deal.

Bangalore, May 7 : India's fourth largest IT bellwether HCL Technologies bagged a $400-million (Rs. 2,400 crore) deal to run the IT operations of DNB Bank ASA, Norway's largest bank.
"As part of the multi-year deal, we will migrate and transform DNB's systems and infrastructure from its IT partner to two data centres in Norway," HCL vice president Ashish Gupta said in a statement here Wednesday.
