Feast your eyes on paintings that will leave you impressed. Works by artists such as Sharad Bharadwaj and Deepak Thimaya are up for sale at the Kahawa Art Gallery. While Sharad’s paintings focus on the abstract, dwelling on themes such as Ganesha, and life under water, Deepak Thimaya, a television anchor by profession, has worked on oil paintings, mostly on nature.

Also on display is Chittara Art — a collection of paintings by artists from the Centre for Revival of Indigenous Art (CRFIA).

At first glance, Chittara could be mistaken for Maharashtrian Warli art. But a closer look reveals intricate patterns that define the Chittara form of art.

The Commonwealth Moot Court competition, organised by the first batch of law students from Christ University came to an end on February 22. "The Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) approached us with a proposal to organise the event,” said Swagata Raha, faculty secretary for the Moot Court. “CLEA has been organising the Moot Court competition, in which student teams representing universities from Commonwealth nations compete for the Turnbull Shield,” says Raha.

A Shravanabelagola-bound bus from KR Pet fell into the dry bed of a lake on Tuesday evening killing six passengers on the spot and injuring over 15 others. The accident occured at around 7 pm even as the driver was trying to negotiate the bus on the narrow tankbund.

Some people had a miraculous escape as the tank — Deveerammani kere, a km after KR Pet in Mandya district — was dry. The ill-fated KSRTC bus had more than 60 people on board when the mishap occured.

Mico Layout police ask neither for vehicles nor guns; they just need more personnel

The crime rate in Mico Layout, a mostly up-market area in south-east Bangalore, has been in a state of constant fluctuation over the last five years. But the graph has only been on an upward climb in recent times. There has been a 50% rise in crime at Mico Layout in the last one year.

Meanwhile, the police are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain law and order in the area. The reason for this could be attributed to the shortage of personnel at the Mico Layout police station. According to sources, the police force there is short of 17 constables, who are desperately required for guarding the crime-prone area.

Bangalore, Feb 17 : IT major Infosys Technologies on Tuesday announced that it has set up a fund `Infosys Science Foundation', for awarding outstanding achievements in various fields.

This foundation would be funded by a corpus of 210.5 million rupees, contributed by the firm''s board members and an annual grant from Infosys Technologies Limited.

The trust would honour an annual award of five million rupees to the countrymen for their exceptional contribution in the arena of physical and mathematical sciences, engineering, life science and social sciences and economics.
