As part of its worldwide Intelligent Urbanisation initiative, Cisco Systems has signed up a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Karnataka to launch ‘Intelligent Bengaluru’ pilot project in the city.

Under the MoU, the project launched by the state government and networking giant will focus on global sustainable solutions for public safety and security, transportation, buildings, power distribution, energy utilization, health care, education and environment conservation.

Bangalore, Feb 14, : The Anjani Technoplast Limited (ATL) on Friday introduced an indigenously built water-jet machine with application in aerospace and defence industry here.

ATL marketing manager Sunil Sharma claimed that the water jet could cut through titanium, steel aluminium and alloys as well as composite materials.

"This is a high pressure technology. We can even cut steel up to 200 mm. We have supplied machines to various customers like titanium cutting, external steel cutting so this is a perfectly Indian machine. The first Indian manufacturers of such kinds of machines," he said.

Bangalore, Feb 14: India''s only cosmonaut, Wing Commander (retired) Rakesh Sharma flew in the Boeing-made FA-18 Super Hornet at Aero India 2009 in Bangalore on Friday.

Dressed in the pilot overhauls, Sharma (60) almost logged one-hour sortie as a part of the promotional flight programme by Boeing.

Incidentally, Boeing has bid for the Indian Air Force (IAF) medium multi-role combat aircraft deal.

Bangalore, Feb 13 : Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major, has said that the current security scenario calls for the increased use of unmanned aerial vehicles with better combat facilities.

Air Marshal Major said the Air Force is in the process of upgrading its combating edge.

Bangalore, Feb 12 : Mantis, an autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) developed by BAE Systems, Europe''s biggest defense company, made its international debut at the ongoing Aero India 2009 in Bangalore.

According to BAE, Mantis can be commanded and controlled by the person on ground through computer who can decide its route and even can decide its height.

"Special features are that it is very light weight, compact, flexible in operation and can be easily be carried on the back pack by two people," said Rajiv Kumar Sharma, a retired wing commander.
