New Delhi, Apr 7: Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram today said that the Government has strong reasons to believe that the perpetrators of the Assam blasts belong to the ULFA.

Addressing a press conference here, Chidambaram said: "The Government condemns these acts of violence, even while it regrets that it was not possible for the security forces to pre-empt and prevent these incidents."

Despite the rather heavy booking amount, ranging between Rs. 95,000 and Rs. 1,40,000, the dealers of Tata Motors alone have had more than 51,000 forms sold to the excited customers for the small wonder Nano, during the five days since the forms were made available from April 1.

Mumbai, Apr 7: Samajwadi Party activists allegedly distributed money to prospective voters in Mumbai.

There were allegations that Shahid Azmi, brother of Abu Asim Azmi reportedly doled out money during the procession. However, Azmi refuted these allegations.

"I don''t know anything. Money can''t be distributed. There is no question of distributing money," said Abu Asim Azmi, a candidate of Samajwadi Party from Mumbai North West constituency.

New Delhi, Apr 7: Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram will reply to a Election Commission notice today for allegedly offering poll sops during his Rajasthan visit for a security review.

On Monday, the Commission granted one-day extension to him.

The Commission had issued a notice to Chidambaram for violating the model code of conduct.

The Commission received a complaint from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in this regard.

New Delhi, Apr 6 : President Pratibha Patil has condoled the passing away of Puducherry Lt. Governor Govind Singh Gurjar.

In a condolence message to his wife, Kamlesh Gurjar, the President said, " Gurjar was a well-known public figure, who worked for the welfare of the people in Rajasthan, during his public life. His passing away is a deep loss for the people, especially for those in Rajasthan."

Gurjar died following a cardiac arrest here on Monday.

Kamal Nath, union minister of commerce & industry, would be representing the Prime Minister at the 7th Association of South East Nations (ASEAN)-India Summit and the fourth East Asia Summit, which is scheduled to be held during April 11 – 12, 2009 in Thailand.

ASEAN held these summits on a yearly basis.

Leaders of state/government of the 10 ASEAN member nations in addition to its dialogue associates including India, China, Japan, Korea, etc attended the summits.
