Ramadoss, Velu to resign todayNew Delhi, Mar 28: The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) nominees in the Union Cabinet, Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss and Minister of State for Railways R Velu, will resign today from their ministerial posts.

According to PMK sources, Ramadoss and Velu will hand over their resignations to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh this evening.

The move comes two days after the party surprised all and decided to switch-over to AIADMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu for the Lok Sabha polls.

Varun Gandhi sent to judicial custody till MondayPilibhit, Mar 28: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi, who on Saturday moved a surrender plea in Pilibhit''s local court, has been sent to two-day judicial custody.

The application, which was moved by his lawyers before Chief Judicial Magistrate Vipin Kumar, will be taken up on Monday.

Speaking with journalists outside the Pilibhit court, Varun said: "I am ready to go to jail. I am victim of political conspiracy."

On Friday, Varun Gandhi withdrew his anticipatory bail application from the Delhi High Court. The court had granted him anticipatory bail on March 20.

Varun took the decision to withdraw the bail application after the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday rejected his petition seeking quashing of two FIRs registered against him for his speeches in Pilibhit on March 7 and 8.

India to attend SCO meeting in Moscow today

India to attend SCO meeting in Moscow todayMoscow, Mar 27: India will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference on Afghanistan in Moscow on Friday.

The conference is being held ahead of the March 31 meeting on Afghanistan in The Hague, under the initiative of the United States. India is participating in both the meetings.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh''s special envoy, Satinder Lambah, will represent India at the conference.

Inflation rates falls further to 0.27 per cent

inflationNew Delhi, Mar 26 : The rate of inflation for the week ended March 14 fell further to 0.27 percent, from 0.44 per cent a week earlier, government data showed on Thursday.

However, the prices of some essential commodities like cereals and vegetables have risen during the period.

The price for primary food articles like fruits and vegetables, rice, some varieties of pulses, barley, bajra, and maize rose by 0.1 percent.

The food index of manufactured items also went up as maida, sooji, oil cakes, imported edible oil, gur, and cottonseed oil became expensive.
