Saumya, Jigisha murder cases solved, claims Delhi PoliceNew Delhi, Mar 24: Delhi Police has claimed to have solved the September 2008 murder case of TV journalist Saumya Vishwanathan with the arrest of three members of a gang.

According to sources, police found a link between Vishwanathan''s murder and the recent murder of call-centre employee Jigisha Ghose.

Ghose, a Hewitt Associates employee, was abducted by three men near New Delhi''s Vasant Vihar area. The abductors later killed her and withdrew money using her ATM card.

Prime Minister pays obeisance at Golden TempleAmritsar, Mar 24: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Tuesday morning paid obeisance at the Sri Harmandir Sahib also known as the Golden Temple.

Dr. Singh along with his wife Gursharan Kaur offered thanks giving prayers after his successful coronary by-pass surgery.

Before entering the sanctom sanctorum, the Prime Minister did ''Parikrama'' of Sri Harmandir Sahib and then listened to the ''path'' and ''ardaas''. He spent more than half-an-hour there.

Before leaving for New Delhi, Dr. Singh also visited the Durgiana Temple.

UN High Commissioner visits NHRC

UN High Commissioner visits NHRCNew Delhi, Mar. 23: The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms Navanethem Pillay, today visited the National Human Rights Commission of India.

She was welcomed by the NHRC Chairperson, Mr. Justice S. Rajendra Babu.

During her about half an hour stay in the Commission, Pillay held discussions with the NHRC Chairperson, Members and Senior Officers on Human Rights related issues.

She showed keen interest in Commission’s activities in its effort to promoting and protecting human rights.

India election board seeks to bar Gandhi family scion from polls New Delhi - India's Election Commission has found the grandson of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi guilty of making anti-Muslim statements during political rallies and said he should not be nominated as a candidate for the upcoming general elections, news reports said Monday.

In an order issued late Sunday night, the Election Commission said the speeches by Varun Gandhi contained "highly derogatory references and seriously provocative language of a wholly unacceptable nature against a certain community," the Indian Express daily reported.

President issues notification for first phase of electionsNew Delhi, Mar 23: President Pratibha Patil on Monday issued the notification for the first phase of the five phased Lok Sabha elections.

Notifications were also issued by respective Governors for 154 of the 294 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh and 70 of the 147 Assembly seats in Orissa, going to polls along with the Lok Sabha elections in the first phase.

As many as 124 out of the total 543 constituencies will go to polls in the first phase, which is scheduled to be held on April 16 covering 15 states and two Union Territories.
