Asif Ali Zardari elected 11th President of Pakistan

PPP co-chairman Asif Ali ZardariIslamabad, Sept 6: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari has been elected as the 11th President of the Pakistan.

Zardari was elected through a secret ballot by the two chambers of its Parliament, the National Assembly and Senate, and the four Provincial Assemblies.

The other contestants in the Presidential election were Justice Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and Mushahid Hussain Syed of Pakistan Muslim League- Quaid (PML-Q).

According to the initial unofficial results, Asif Ali Zardari, widower of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, was leading in two provincial assemblies.

According to the Washington Post, Zardari''s circle of trusted aides and advisers is “relatively small as a result”.

The botched attack on Principal Officer of the American Consulate in Peshawar, Lynne Tracy occurred outside her residence in the University Town on Rahman Baba Road in the posh University Town locality.

“Untouchable” Hindu women and kids being sexploited in Pak

Karachi, Sept 6: A new study has found that the Hindus belonging to lower (Scheduled) castes are unofficially declared as “untouchables” and are given a second-grade-citizen treatment. Their kids are made to clean the school premises and are forces to sit on back benches.

The study also found that Hindu women belong to scheduled castes were the most vulnerable and considered “sexually available by men” of Muslim-dominated communities. Since the SC Hindus are economically weaker with no social support or political leverage in the community, their young women/ girls were lured into matrimony or abducted and wed through forced conversions.

“Pak reserves right to retaliate against future US, NATO forces’ attacks”

Rawalpindi, Sept 6 : Gen Tariq Majid, the Chairman of Pakistan Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) has said that his country reserves the right to appropriately retaliate against unilateral attacks by coalition forces from Afghanistan.

The statement comes in the wake of recent strikes by US and NATO forces in Pakistan’s tribal areas and statements emanating from the US that such cross-border strikes were “a necessity” to counter the violence in Afghanistan.

“Pakistan reserves the right to appropriately retaliate in future,” the Daily Times quoted Tariq as saying at a meeting with German Defence Minister Franz Josef Jung who called on him at the Joint Staff Headquarters here last evening.
