Nuke Sub, Aircraft Carrier in Kalam’s vision 2020 for AndamansPort Blair (Andaman and Nicobar Islands), Sep 4 : Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on Friday unveiled a vision document for the strategic development of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by the year 2020.

Inaugurating a national seminar on ‘Security and Development of the Andaman and Nicobar islands’ here, Dr Kalam said that a 250 mw nuclear power station on one of the islands would form the core of the development programme.

Sonia to address public rally in Andaman todayPort Blair, Feb 27 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi will address a public rally at Netaji Stadium here today.

Besides addressing a rally, Sonia is also scheduled to unveil the statue Rajiv Gandhi at Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex.

On Saturday, UPA chairperson will visit Car Nicobar and Cambell Bay where she will unveil the statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at Indira point.

Before leaving for Delhi, Sonia will handover the keys of permanent shelter to tsunami-affected persons near airport in Car Nicobar. (ANI)

Quake of slight intensity rocks Andaman Island

Port Blair (Andaman Islands), Oct 4 : A moderate intensity quake measuring 5.5 on Richter Scale rocked Andaman Island early this morning.

According to the met department, the epicentre of the quake was located at a latitude of 10.8 degrees North and longitude of 91.7 degrees East.

There were no immediate reports of any casualty or damages. (ANI)

Navies of Asia Pacific Nations meet at AndamansPort Blair, Jan 18: 'MILAN', an initiative of the Indian Navy, for interaction among navies of different countries in the Indian Ocean region, is being held here today.

Milan is a biennial conglomeration of Asia-Pacific Maritime Navies at Port Blair to foster bonds of 'Friendship Across the Seas' and share views on common maritime issues.

Ships and delegations from Australia, New Zealand, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Bangaladesh, Vietnam and Brunei are expected to take part.

MPEDA reveals its plans regarding Tuna Exports

Port Blair: Marine Products Export Development AuthorityAfter recommendations of MPEDA, the Union Territory government has finally released its plans for fishing and export of tuna, a fish variety on large scale.

It is estimated that the population of tuna, the most sought after fish in Japan and other fish eating countries, accounts for nearly 75 per cent of the tuna wealth in the country. Its exports grew by 43 per cent in volume and 88 per cent in value during 2006-07.

The perspective plan for tuna-based commercial enterprise has been prepared with the help of the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA).
