Companies from varied mix of business bag tata nen awards; 30 city firms fail to make it to the final list

After over six months of campaigning, the winners of the Tata National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) awards were announced on February 27 in Mumbai.

Although 30 companies from Pune were amongst the 600-odd short-listed initially, none of them could make it to the final list.

The Tata NEN Hottest Start-ups Awards is a people's choice awards for new start-ups announced in 2008. It attracted around 600 nominations covering a wide range of sectors and geographies with start-ups from over 40 cities covering nearly 20 industry segments, making it India's largest start-up contest.

Rs678-cr budget for PCNTDA

Special focus on housing project for MIG and LIG

The Pimpri-Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA) on Friday presented a Rs678.12 crore budget for 2009-10 to Pune divisional commissioner Dilip Band. PCNTDA chief executive officer Suhas Divase presented the budget.

A special focus of the budget is the proposed housing project for middle income group (MIG) and low income group (LIG) on a public- private-partnership (PPP) basis in sector 12 on 58 hectares of land. Transforming nallas into green zones, foot overbridge at Akurdi railway station, eco-friendly office for PCNTDA, sports training centres and theme parks for children are the other features of the budget.

Officials of the state co-operative department, particularly those from the stamp duty and registration office, came under a scathing attack from several representatives of the housing societies who blamed them for the ills afflicting the poor functioning of co-operative housing societies in the city.

No tax hike in the election year

The civic budget has crossed Rs3,000-cr mark for the first time

Citizens have been spared from paying higher taxes this year.

Standing committee chairman Shyam Deshpande on Friday presented a Rs3,027.41-crore budget for 2009-10, which is a little over Rs346 crore as proposed earlier by municipal commissioner Praveensingh Pardeshi.

This is the first time that the civic budget has crossed the Rs3,000 crore mark. In the budget tabled before the general body, a sum of Rs1,929.86 crore has been earmarked for development works.

District Cong goes ahead with the list of likely candidates

The move comes in the wake of ongoing talks on seat-sharing for Lok Sabha with its alliance partner NCP

Even as the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are busy sorting out the issue of seat-sharing, the district unit of INC has prepared a list of its probable candidates for the general election from Baramati and Shirur, from where NCP president Sharad Pawar intends to contest.

INC's district unit president Devidas Bhansali told DNA that neither he nor the party activists wanted any alliance with NCP in the elections. "Our demand is to fight on our own," he said.

He said that the final decision on the alliance would be taken by the party high command.
