The indefinite strike of CGHS employees continued for the third consecutive day

The ongoing strike of the All India Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) Employees' Association has put patients' lives in peril.

The indefinite strike across the country was launched on Monday.

Almost 400 patients turn up daily at the CGHS building located at Mukundnagar but they are being sent back.

All the seven dispensaries in the city remained closed for the third consecutive day. The CGHS pharmacists too have joined hands.

AB Patil, a CGHS pharmacist at Mukundnagar, said, "We are not going to give medicines till our demands are met."

Council okays UoP budget

Vice-chancellor of the University of Pune (UoP) Narendra Jadhav said that the management council of the university on Wednesday approved the budget for 2009-10. "But the finalisation of the budget will take place only in the senate meeting to be slated on 28 and 29 March," he said. Jadhav was briefing mediapersons about the decisions of the management council.

The university will offer stipend to all 240 students pursuing MPhil at the university and candidates attached to the postgraduation centres in affiliated colleges.

The Pune University Teachers' Association (Puta) on Wednesday demanded that the University of Pune (UoP) and its affiliated colleges should fill the vacant posts of sports director and director of physical education respectively for the benefit of students involved in sports activities.

Addressing a press conference, the teachers' association alleged that around 70% of the university affiliated colleges are yet to fill the vacant posts of the director of physical education.

Over 11 lakh students will appear for hsc examinations from today under the gaze of squads

The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination conducted by the Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will begin on Thursday.

As many as 11,84,226 students will appear for the examination which will end on March 21. The practical examinations were conducted between February 6 to 24 at the colleges.

"We will have police bandobast near the examination centres to avoid any untoward incidents," secretary of the board TN Supe said. For the first time, the board has requested for vigilance squads from the Pune Municipal Corporation and the district collectorate for the centres.

Two held for abusing judge

In a case of road rage, two city-based scooterists allegedly abused and threatened an Ahmednagar-based judge near Nilayam theatre recently.

The Dattawadi police have arrested the duo, who were later released on bail by a city court.

Police inspector Ashok Kshirsagar told DNA that a complaint was lodged by judicial magistrate (first class) Ajay Ashok Bhatewara (28) of Ahmednagar.

According to the police, the judge and his wife were heading towards Ganesh Kala Krida Manch at Swargate from Mhatre Bridge near Nal Stop for a programme.

Bhatewara was driving the car. After reaching Lal Bahadur Shastri Road, the couple reached the chowk near Nilayam theatre.
