Dissatisfied Sonia asks officials to get pro-active

Rae Bareli, Dec 12 : Congress president Sonia Gandhi is unhappy over the poor implementation of central government welfare schemes for the poor in her constituency Rae Bareli and has asked officials to get pro-active, party and official sources said Saturday.
At her meeting with senior state government officials that went on for over three hours, Gandhi asked about almost every development programmes being carried out in Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. The meeting took place after the end of her two-day trip to the Lok Sabha constituency.

Rae Bareli, Dec 12 - Congress president Sonia Gandhi is "dissatisfied and disappointed" with the slow progress of the central government's public welfare schemes in her Uttar Pradesh constituency Rae Bareli, a party spokesperson said Saturday.
Gandhi, who arrived here Friday, is on a two-day tour of her constituency to review the status of developmental schemes.

Rae Bareilly (UP), Oct. 31 : Rae Bareilly, the former constituency of former assassinated Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, remembered her on her 25th death anniversary today.
The area is the political bastion of the Nehru-Gandhi family.
After independence, the Rae Bareilly constituency was won by Jawaharlal Nehru''s son-in-law Feroze Gandhi and later by Indira Gandhi.

Raebareli, Aug 12 : Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi inaugurated 3G mobile services of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd on Wednesday at Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh.
After four major cities of the state including Lucknow, Allahabad, Kanpur and Varanasi it was a first small town where this high tech facility of mobile has been introduced.

Rae Bareilly, Aug 11 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday inaugurated the Rajiv Gandhi hostel building at the Firoz Gandhi Engineering College in Rae Bareli.
The hostel has been constructed at a cost of six crore rupees and also residential capacity for 250 students.
She also laid the foundation stone for the administrative building of the college.
On Monday, she visited over a dozen villages, including Kurli Sudauli, Despur, Akhileshwar, Rajamau, Chauhaniya, Pahadpur, Hasratulganj villages.

Rae Bareli, Apr 27: Priyanka Gandhi, the daughter of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, on Monday hit back at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi, saying people vote for her family members not due to Gandhi surname but due to the work done by them.
“Many people ask me why do our family members keep on winning from these seats. Some argue we are Gandhis that’s why we win, but this is not true. Whether the name Gandhi is with us or not you would not have promoted us had we not worked,” Priyanka said at an election rally here.

Rae Bareli, Apr 27: Priyanka Gandhi, the daughter of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, on Monday asked people to realize the power of their votes, saying no one can become a leader or get into the government without the support of the people.
“By your support, development and change take place. It is important for you to understand it during the polls,” Priyanka Gandhi said at an election rally here.
Priyanka Gandhi further said that a leader is a servant of the people and by serving them, the leader does not do any favour.
Sonia Gandhi to address rally in Rae Bareli today

Rae Bareli, Apr 25 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi will address an election rally at the GIC ground here this evening.
This will be Sonia''s first rally in her parliamentary constituency, which will go to polls in the third phase on April 30.

Rae Bareli, Apr 6: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will file her nomination papers from Rae Bareilly constituency today.
Sonia will be accompanied by her son and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
Sonia stood from Rae Bareilly in 2004 and won it by a huge margin.
The constituency votes in the third phase on April 30.
The elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in five phases: April 16, 23, 30 and May 7 and May 13. (ANI)
12 killed in train-trolley mishap near Rae Bareli

Rae Bareli, Jan 25, : At least twelve People were killed and several others injured after a tractor trolley collided with a speeding train at the Unchahar Railway crossing here today.
The injured have been admitted to a district hospital.
The trolley passengers were going to Allahabad to have a holy dip in the Sangam, when their vehicle hit the Allahabad Kanpur passenger train, police said.
Chains were being used to check traffic, as the gate at the crossing was not functioning.
Railway sources, said the accident took place when the trolley crossed over to the other side in a hurry. (ANI)
Sonia to visit Rae Bareli today

Rae Bareli, Oct 14 : Congress president Sonia Gandhi is expected to arrive here today on a day-long visit. Her visit assumes significance after her public rally, organized for today, was cancelled in the wake of Section 144 (CrPC) being in force in the district.
During her visit, Sonia will visit a health camp at Bainsawar Degree Collage in Lalganj area. Earlier, she was scheduled to address a public rally in the area.
A road show would also be organized on the occasion, said sources in party''s state unit.
Rae Bareli farmers saddened over cancellation of land for railway coach factory

They feel the project could have provided a number of jobs and ensured the overall development of the region.
"We also want that we get jobs at this rail coach factory apart from farming. We would be able to earn money and will eke out living for our family that way," said Shivshankar Vajpayee, a farmer.
The Uttar Pradesh Government had yesterday cancelled the allotment of 189.25 hectares of land for a new state-run railway coach factory in Rae Bareli district.
Sonia Gandhi attends Iftar party in Rae Bareilly

Sonia, who is on a two-day visit to Rae Bareilly, her parliamentary constituency, also met flood victims in Unchahar district.
At least 100 people have died as a result of floods in Uttar Pradesh.
She also paid a visit to the residence of Congress worker Sunil Agrihari who had passed away last month at Maharajganj.

The deposition of a witness of the case Aslam is scheduled to take place today. The deposition of two of the three witnesses has been over.

K Advani, Dr. Murali Manohar Joshi and Vinay Katiyar, Bharatiya Janshakti Party leader Uma Bharati, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders Ashok Singhal, Acharya Giriraj Kishore and Vishnu Hari Dalmiya, and Sadhvi Ritambhara are the eight accused facing trial in the matter.
In September 2003, a Rae Bareli court had quashed charges against Advani while deciding to proceed against the other seven persons.

Earlier, the court could not carry with the proceedings due to a strike by the local bar.
Besides BJP leader L K Advani, former Union Minister M M Joshi, Bharatiya Janshakti Party leader Uma Bharti, BJP General Secretary Vinay Katiyar, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders Ashok Singhal, Acharya Giriraj Kishore and Vishnu Hari Dalmiya, and Sadhvi Ritambhara have been named as accused in the case.

Sonia hopes for a women and farmer oriented budget

The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today expressed the hope that Finance Minister P Chidambaram keep the concerns of women and farmers’ in mind while preparing the budget for 2008-09.
"The Finance Minister will be presenting the budget at the end of this month, and I am sure he will keep the common man's difficulties, especially faced by women and farmers’ in mind while preparing the budget," Gandhi said at a Bank of Baroda function here.

Sonia Gandhi to inaugurate 220-KVA sub-station in Rae Bareli

Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will preside over the function.
It will be the first 220 KV sub-station in Rae Bareli and will directly connect Rae Bareli to the Unchahar Thermal Power Staion (1050MW) of NTPC.
Besides, it will directly connect to national grid at Lucknow. This sub-station and transmission line will ensure additional power with reliability, quality and stability.
Rae Bareli at present gets 24-hour power supply, but the same is distributed to the constituency from the 220-KVA sub-station in neighboring Sultanpur district, which often causes distribution problem.
