Sensex Below 11K; Plummets 516.70 PtsAfter two successive days of strong gains, Indian equities plummeted into the negative terrain in today’s session on fears of slowdown in the financial system.

Indian equities continued to trade weak due to heavy selling action seen across board. 

All the sectoral indices were hammered badly.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index declined more than 4% each.

Today, the 30-share index BSE Sensex started the day with a loss of 238.13 points, at 11,245.27 on Wednesday. 

At 1:09 p.m., Sensex stood at 10,940.08 down 516.70 points. It also hit a high of 11,257.15 and a low of 10,940.08.

In the meantime, the broad based Nifty lost 126.65 points at 3,392, after touching a high of 3,518.50 and a low of 3,377.60. 

The overall market breadth was sharply negative. Out of the total 2,481 stocks traded at BSE, 424 went up as against 2009 declinations. 

ACC, which surged 0.18%, was the only gainer in the 30-share index. 

On the other hand, Reliance Communications (10.70%), Reliance Energy (10.16%), Larsen & Toubro (9.81%), Jaiprakash Associates (9.00%), Sterlite Industries (India) (8.34%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (6.90%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
