Shares gain more than 7 per cent in Seoul

Shares gain more than 7 per cent in SeoulSeoul  - Shares rallied Monday on the Seoul stock exchange as investor sentiment was boosted by plans of President-elect Barack Obamas for the US economy. South Korea's won surged against the dollar.

The benchmark Kospi index soared 76.92 points, or 7.5 per cent, to close at 1,105.05.

Advancing issues outpaced decliners 743 to 112.

The main index of the technology-heavy Kosdaq market rose 14.55 points to 316.71.

On currency markets, the dollar was quoted at 1,448.3 Korean won, up 27.2 won after Friday's close of 1,475.5 won. (dpa)
