Shivraj Patil in favour of Special Counter Force to tackle terrorismDelhi, Nov 23 : Union Home Minister. Shiv Raj Patil is strongly in favour of a multi-pronged approach to deal with terrorism, and called upon the affected states to raise Special Counter Force to tackle the menace.

Opening the two day conference of the top brass of Police in New Delhi, Patil said terrorists are using sophisticated small weapons and explosives at present.

But, he warned that the terror groups might use nuclear, biological and chemical devices besides psychological devices in future.

Patil pointed out that to create a fear psychosis, the terrorists choose targets, which can lead to largescale disturbance. That is why they appear to be attacking the religious places to create conflicts between people of different religions, he said.

Ruling out a POTA like law, Patil said relevant provisions of the repealed act had been introduced in the unlawful activities Act.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will address the conference on Sunday and give away the President’s Police Medals for distinguished Service.

The Conference of Directors General and Inspectors General of Police is organised by the Intelligence Bureau. (ANI)
