South Africa's Mbeki agrees to resign: spokesman

Thabo MbekiJohannesburg- South African President Thabo Mbeki will comply with a request from his African National Congress (ANC) for him to resign, his spokesman Mukoni Ratshitanga told South African radio on Saturday.

The ANC had earlier called for Mbeki to step aside over evidence of political interference in the corruption case of Mbeki's rival, ANC leader Jacob Zuma.

The radio quoted Ratshitanga as saying Mbeki had agreed to cooperate with all parliamentary procedures leading to the election of a new president. (dpa)
